Fire & EMS Captain/Recruitment & Retention Coordinator EXTENDED TO Dec. 29th

TRFD is currently recruiting for one Full-time position, Fire Captain/Recruitment & Retention Coordinator.

In addition to the duties of a fire Captain; This position will assist with all aspects of fire department operations and administration and will supervise fire and EMS personnel at the station and during incident operations. Will respond to calls when at the station and on duty, and larger incidents from home when available.

The position will plan, coordinate, and implement recruitment efforts of new volunteers, and the retention of volunteers. Plan, coordinate, and implement the training of new recruits and assist with all levels of training and personnel management in coordination with Training Officer. 

Grant-Funded 4-year Position: This is a temporary, full-time position funded by a FEMA SAFER Grant, intended to improve the Tenmile Rural Fire District’s volunteer Firefighter staffing and deployment capabilities.

Applicant should have at least four years experience in the fire service with progressive responsibilities.

About Tenmile Rural Fire District 

The Tenmile Rural Fire District is a volunteer fire district located in central Douglas County, Oregon in the unincorporated community of Tenmile. We are located on Highway 42 between the community of Camas Valley and the City of Winston. We are approximately 30 minutes from Roseburg and a little over an hour from Diamond Lake. Douglas County offers many amenities for outdoor enthusiasts.

Our fire district boundary encompasses an area of 20 square miles in size, with a first due area of nearly 60 sq. miles. We serve a population of approx. 2,900 citizens and have mutual and auto-aid agreement with surrounding communities. TRFD responded to 320 emergency calls in 2021. The district has 10 active volunteers who respond to medical emergencies, structure fires, wildland fires, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials at the operations level, and public assists.

We operate 2 engines, 2 water tenders, 2 brush trucks, and 1 rescue and 2 support vehicles from 1 main station and 1 substation. We are a first response for medical calls and do not transport. Paid staff include a full-time Fire Chief, part-time Training Officer, and part-time administrative assistant. The district is overseen by a 5-member Board of Directors.

The Recruitment & Retention Coordinator of Volunteer Firefighters position is an “at will” position within the Fire District, which dictates that the employment and compensation for this position may be terminated at any time. No internal candidates are applying for this position!

 

Training Coordinator (Part-Time)

Tenmile Fire is looking for a Fire/EMS Training Coordinator. 

This is specialized work involving responsibility for developing and administering  training programs for firefighters.  An incumbent of this position will be responsible for the preparation and presentation of lessons and for follow through on applications at drills and fires. The work is carried out under the general supervision of the Fire Chief. Supervision will be exercised over personnel undergoing training.

Assignments focus includes:

  • Maintenance of personnel training records
  • Updating certification records
  • Documenting and managing recertification cycle requirements
  • Organizing and leading Fire and EMS trainings
  • Support and manage the TRFD Training Calendar
  • Procures curriculum, books and videos for a training library; maintains library
  • Support  recruitment process for TRFD Fire and EMS positions

Salary range: $16-$18/hr starting wage.

Work Location: 158 Reston Road, Roseburg, OR. 97471

Must reside in the state of Oregon and be able to report onsite in Tenmile, OR for work as needed/scheduled.   

Work Schedule: One day a week, typically Monday or Friday,  with flexibility. Must also be available to lead drills and instruct regularly on TRFD's normal drill nights, currently held on Tuesday evenings from 6-9PM.

This is an average 10-15 hr/week position.

Minumum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or GED plus three years of experience in fire fighting and/or fire prevention work as a volunteer or paid employee of a fire department or as a member in good standing of a duly organized volunteer fire company or department.
