The Tenmile Fire District is always accepting applications for passionate, motivated, and dedicated volunteers to join our team and serve the community. We have many opportunities and positions available, with each position playing a vital role in the affective operation of our organization. 

OUR MEMBERS OUR OUR GREATEST ASSET, and we want you to be part of our team. Your neighbors, friends, and maybe even your relatives make up the Tenmile Rural Fire District team. We are military members, students, professionals, husbands, wives, sons, daughters—and yes, grandparents! We are just like you—with families, jobs, and active lifestyles—and still find time to give back to our community.

More community members of all ages are needed to meet the emergency needs and critical services we provide to our citizens.

Out of District Volunteer and Junior/Cadet Information below

Our members are well trained and have to keep active in the department to keep their firefighting status. We meet each week for a couple of hours to practice different skills to be better prepared for emergencies.

There are no age or skill requirements to join. We will provide all required training. We promote and support our members taking additional Oregon State Fire Training.

Whether you're interested in firefighting, emergency medicine, or assisting the district and the firefighters as a support member, we have a place for you. The entry level requirements for any member of the district begins with honesty, integrity, humility and dedication. If you have these traits then apply today!

Support Members 

Support Members do not fight fires but help support our firefighters in other ways such as:

  • Serves the community by rendering support at emergency scenes and providing additional support within the fire department as needed
  •  Support the firefighters in many ways including rehab, filling SCBA bottles, equipment maintenance, public education, fire prevention, clerical duties, and other duties that may be assigned by a chief officer. The benefit to the fire department is that this position frees up active suppression personnel to perform more hazardous tasks.
  • Join a committee with firefighters to help with administration of the department.
  • Keep our building and grounds clean and safe with the Facilities Committee.
  • Help plan and execute our social events with the Activities Committee

  • Monthly vehicle Checks
  • Firefighter Rehab Teams during major events
  • Public Information

  • Grant Research and Writing (prior experience)

Out Of District Volunteers

Not a resident of the fire district and want to volunteer?

The district also has an out-of-district (OOD) volunteer shift program. Once initial training is completed, OOD volunteers are placed on probation and shadowed by other crew members during shifts. OOD volunteers are then required to sign-up for 24 hours worth of station shifts each month in six (6), twelve (12) , or twent-four (24) hour time blocks. OOD volunteers are reimbursed a stipend for each shift performed in addition to each call they receive while on the shift. Call us today for further information or fill out an application above. Applications can be dropped off during any drill night, Teusdays at 6:30 PM!

Junior/Cadet Firefighter program

Junior firefighter programs give young people the chance to learn about local fire, rescue, and emergency medical services response organizations in a safe, controlled, educational, and fun way while providing departments with an excellent recruitment mechanism. It also allows high school and college students a pathway to a potential career in the Fire or EMS career field. Reaching out to people when they are young has long-range effects, and encouraging youth to take part in the emergency services is extremely beneficial to local communities and departments. Benefits of junior firefighter programs include:

  • Allowing youth to gain insight and interest in becoming long-term members of the emergency services
  • Increasing awareness among youth about volunteering and supporting the fire and emergency services
  • Providing departments with additional help in accomplishing non-firefighting or non-emergency tasks
  • Leadership development for America’s youth, who are tomorrow’s leaders, Educating parents and mentors on the importance of encouraging volunteerism
  • Must be 16 years old
